Plot Summary of A Brother's Journey
"The world was shocked when "A Child Called It" was published in 1995. In that book, which went on to sell over 3 million copies worldwide, Dave Pelzer told of horrific abuse from his mother and was emotionally and mentally terrorized by his brother Richard. Fortunately for Dave, he was removed from the Pelzer household by the time he was 13 year's old. Unfortunately, Mrs. Pelzer needed a new target for her alcohol-induced wrath. She began abusing Richard violently by beating him at night, shoving tabasco sauce down his throat, denying him clean clothes, and physically abusing him to the point of hospitalization. But this time, she made sure his wounds didn't show--she wasn't going to allow Richard to be taken, too. This is a story of Richard's struggle to survive years of abuse - and how he came to terms with his abusiveness towards his own brother. "

"    Richard Pelzer, after years of witnessing and even participating in the abuse fo his older brother, finds himself on the receiving end of physical, mental, and emotional abuse dealt out by his mother. Richard describes his role as his mother's informant during the abuse suffered by his brother, his dealings with guilt and confusion, self preservation and fear. When his brother no longer lives in the home, he shifts from predator to prey.
Richard gives his audience a very real decription of the abuse many children are forced to suffer, society's role in witnessing the abuse and his own journey through the pain and humiliation of abuse.
