| Plot Summary of The Hanging Garden |

"Detective Inspector John Rebus is investigating a suspected Nazi war criminal. But because a young Bosnian woman forced into prostitution reminds Rebus of his own daughter, he tries to help her escape from a ganster, Telford, who is importing prostitutes.
Rebus's daughter then becomes a victim of a hit and run which looks like the work of Telford. Soon Rebus finds himself in a personal vendetta against Telford and he is prepared to seek help from Telford's rival, big Ger McCafferty. Meanwhile, Rebus' investigation is hitting dead ends as it looks like the British government does not want anyone investigating the possible war criminal.
This is book 9 in the Inspector Rebus series which contrasts the repercussions of World War II and the war in the former Yugoslavia."
