Plot Summary of Isabella
"Isabella Latham comes to London to chaperon her two young and pretty cousins for their debut season. She's a 26 year old ugly daughter of a mother who scandalized London society by running off to marry a merchant, and so has no expectations of attracting suitors.

Isabella comes to the attention of Edward, the staid and proper Earl of Hartleigh, because his young female ward thinks Isabella should be her mama. Initially, Edward uses his ward as an excuse to see Isabella but he finds they have interests in common and he likes Isabella's character. Isabella thinks she is unworthy of his notice but she cannot help but be attracted to handsome and intelligent man. She is also sought out by Edward's cousin, Basil, a charming fortune hunter, who thinks that Isabella's lack of appeal means she will be easy prey. Isabella struggles to resist both men."
