Plot Summary of Lord of Scoundrels
"Beautiful, intelligent, and independent Jessica Trent goes to Paris to rescue her idiot of a brother from the destructive influence of Sebastian Ballister, Marquess of Dain, also known as the lord of scoundrels. Jessica buys an icon which Dain wants. She agrees to give it to him if he sends her brother home. Dain refuses to be manipulated by Jessica and is infuriated that he is attracted to her. Not only is she not a courtesan, the only kind of woman Dain associates with, but she is too beautiful to be a match for someone like him who was told all his life that he is an abomination, too big and ugly. Even more bewildering for Dain, Jessica seems to be attracted to him.

When they are caught in a compromising position, Dain refuses to repair Jessica's reputation by marrying her. So, she shoots him in the arm and demands a financial settlement for ruining her reputation. Because they are in Paris, the French excuse a wronged woman's revenge. They return to England and Dain finally agrees to marry Jessica because a law suit would be even more damaging to his reputation. But because he still cannot believe that a good marriage is possible for him, he refuses to consummate the marriage. It is up to Jessica, a virginal spinster, to repair the damage of Dain's unloving childhood and convince the rake he should be sharing her bed."
