| Plot Summary of The Long Voyage |
"The Long Voyage tells the story of a five day train ride to a German concentration camp near Weimar in the winter of 1943. Manuel, the narrator, is a captured member of the resistance. He finds himself jammed into a railcar with 119 other prisoners pressed up against one another so that there is barely room to breathe.
Manuel tells the story of the journey from sixteen years after the event. He fills it with flashbacks and flashforwards: his childhood in Spain and Holland, his arrest and imprisonment in the Auxerre prison, his life in the camp and his eventual liberation."
