| Plot Summary of Shattered Rainbows |
"Colonel Michael Kenyon is in Brussels to fight Napoleon. He lives at the home of a fellow calvary officer whose wife everyone calls St. Catherine for all the care she gives to the wounded. Michael is attracted to her. Not only is she caring, she is beautiful and clearly unhappy in her marriage. But Michael cannot think of anything worse than loving a married woman. He already had a disasterous affair with the wife of one of his best friends. Catherine, too, does nothing about the love she feels despite the fact that she knows her husband is unfaithful. But she saves Michael's life after the battle of Waterloo.
A year later, Catherine needs a husband in order to secure an inheritance. She comes to Michael asking him to pretend he is her husband telling him her husband is missing. Michael agrees. But Catherine has an enemy who wants the inheritance for himself and is willing to kill to get it.
