| Plot Summary of Exodus |
" “Exodus” is the story of Kitty Fremont, a Christian nurse, and her love for Ari Ben Canaan, a leader of the Jewish underground set against the background of the struggle for a Jewish homeland in Israel. They meet when he comes aboard a ship filled with refugee Jewish children trying to run a British blockade to reach Palestine in order to organize a hunger strike.
Kitty also becomes attached to Karen, a young refugee who becomes like a daughter to her when the hunger strike is successful and they manage to get into the county. There Kitty must deal with the fact that both of the people she loves are completely committed to working for a country for their people in spite of the great dangers. They see themselves as soldiers in a greater battle. In the end when Karen is killed by Arab fighters, Kitty must decide whether she can also devote her life to this greater cause. "
