| Plot Summary of Wild Child |
"Kyle Renbourne, heir to an earldom, had agreed to an arranged marriage with wealthy Lady Meriel Grahame. He is supposed to be at Lady Meriel's estate to do his duty and court her, but his beloved mistress is dying. To stay with his mistress, Kyle offers some family land as a bribe to his twin brother, Dominic, if Dominic will pretend to be Kyle for a few weeks. It should not be difficult since Lady Meriel is said to be possibly mad.
When Dominic meets Meriel, he is enchanted by the silent fairy like woman, who is living on an isolated estate like a wild child. He soon learns she is not mad, but has not spoken since a childhood trauma in India which resulted in the murder of her parents and her capture as a slave. Dominic patiently encourages Meriel to open up to him and in the process falls hopelessly in love with her.
Dominic is left in the impossible position of being unable to tell Meriel who he really is and knowing she is to marry his brother. To further complicate the path to love, one of Meriel's guardians wants to have her committed to an insane asylum."
