| Plot Summary of The China Bride |
"The story opens with Troth Montgomery, a Scottish-Chinese woman, who has been living between two cultures in 19th century China. She arrives at the English home of Dominic Renbourne to announce she is his brother's widow. Through flashback we learn how Kyle Renbourne, Viscount Maxwell, an English lord, was trying to escape his sorrows after the death of his lover by travelling abroad. He meets Troth in Macao. Kyle wants to travel in China and Troth goes with him as a translator. Between them, they find understanding and passion.
Kyle is caught in the forbidden area of China, thrown in prison and sentenced to death. Kyle marries Troth then sends her back to his ancestral home so she can tells his family of his fate and discover the European side of herself. When Kyle miraculously reappears, Kyle must discover if he can love again."
