| Plot Summary of Lorelei |
"Amanda Harris is the youngest of five children. She has a child's view of the world, and sees things in black and white. She believes that people she loves will live forever, and the world is filled with love, happiness, and happily ever after. But she's only twelve. Untouched by the world, and uneducated in the ways of love, she doesn't know how to deal with the loss of her grandmothers. Sure that cancer is contagious and deadly, she worries about her own mortality, and yet keeps her fears bottled up inside. When her eldest sister falls in love with a wonderful man, her happiness makes Amanda rethink her ideas of never being married or with someone - until he commits suicide and leaves Amanda more confused than ever. Her sister's grief becomes her own, and she shrinks away from the world and away from those who care about her the most.
As an adult, Amanda attends college to become a teacher, and in her spare time writes stories and poems - hoping to one day become an author and have control over one section of her life.
And then she meets Gabriel Drake. Confident, handsome, and self-assured, 'Gabe' is the perfect match for Amanda's personality. But when she is attacked and almost raped on the way home from University one evening, Amanda retreats within herself even more - and drives Gabe away. Until one night when they meet on Cavendish beach, with the moon shining brightly and the scent of roses in the air. Amanda is sure she's dreaming when she comes across Gabe, and falls into his arms. But when he pulls away, telling her they don't know each other well enough to make love - she runs away in tears, vowing to never be that weak again.
Follow Amanda as she deals with the fear of loving someone again, only to lose them to death. She discovers that Gabe is married, and tries to move on with someone else. When her new husband is diagnosed with a deadly disease, Amanda is forced to face the truth about life, death, and love."
