Plot Summary of More than a Mistress
"    Jane Ingleby, who is actually Lady Sara Illingsworth, is on the run from her guardian, the Earl of Durbury. Jane had struggled with his son, who was trying to ravish her, and he was injured. The Earl pronounced that his son was dead and Sara/Jane was the murderer. In fear, she takes off for London to reach her godmother, who is out of town when she arrives. Lady Sara/Jane decides to take up employment, but on her way to work, she encounters a duel in Hyde Park, and yells for the men to stop, causing Jocelyn Dudley, the Duke of Tresham, to get shot in the leg.

The duel caused Jane to be late for work and lose her job, but her boss told her that if she could get a letter from the Duke, she could have her job back. Jane located Tresham and demanded a letter and ended up employed by him instead in a temporary position as his nurse.

Tresham and Jane, who feel a strong desire for each other, know that their relationship is forbidden since she is employed by him. Tresham offers Jane a position as his mistress at the end of the three weeks. Jane accepts the position in an effort to hide out, and she also accepts it due to her passion and love for Tresham. The couple have to go through her dilemma with charges which linger against her and Tresham's personal issues with love and marriage. "
