| Plot Summary of When I was Cool: My Life at the Jack Kerouac School |
"When I was Cool is a memoir of Sam Kashner's time spent as the first student at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics in Boulder, Colorado. It takes place in the late 1970's. The teachers at the school are the beatnik poets Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, and Gregory Corso. Sam goes to the school because he is fascinated by the beat generation. He gets to know them all very well and gives a great account of what these writers were like when they got older, as they had their heyday in the 1950's."
