Plot Summary of The Merchant of Menace
"Jane Jeffry and her neighbor, Shelley, try to solve the murder of a reporter, Lance King, who fell off the roof next door and landed on a Christmas reindeer decoration. The reindeer had a metal rod that attached the antlers to its head, and when Lance fell on the reindeer, the rod pierced his heart and killed him. There were two prints in the snow on the rooftop, which led police to believe that Lance's fall wasn't an accident. The rush is on to find some computer disks that Lance always carried with him that had notes on the dirt he dug up on people, yet when Jane found the disks and opened the files, she found that they were in code. When her dad helped break the code, Jane found quite a list of suspects, but nothing very helpful because she didn't figure anyone would kill for that information. Jane's boyfriend, Mel VanDyne is assigned to the case."
