"The Likes Of Me is about Cordelia Hankins who is half Chinese, half American and all albino. She lives on her father's wood mill in western Washington with her father, and her 7 foot stepmother, Babe. In 1918, she is 14 and has her first crush: Squirl, a new, young, advernturous lumberjack, whom her father has warned her to stay away from. He gets fired and so she hops a train--determined to find him.
