| Plot Summary of Magician's Ward |
"Magician's Ward is the sequel to Mairelon the Magician. The central character is still Kim, the street thief Mairelon picked up in the first book, although Kim is no longer a street thief. At the end of Mairelon the Magician, it was discovered that Kim has the potential to become a magician. Mairelon takes her as his ward, and she begins her apprenticeship, which, to her dismay, involves being introduced to London Society and dealing with Mairelon's annoying live-in aunt. But things get more exciting before long. An intruder breaks into Mairelon's house, and a sequence of clues leads Kim and Mairelon to believe that he is a dangerous individual who is attempting to steal the magic of others, eventually including Mairelon's.
