| Plot Summary of The Silent Cry |
"Women are being brutally reaped and beaten in the slums of Seven Dials, but when a wealthy man is killed and his son horribly beaten the police become intensely interested. Hester Latterly is called on to take care of the son who has lost the ability to speak and she gets the family to consult with Monk, her detective friend in order to find out what happened. Anne Perry, as usual, is concerned with the underside of Victorian society and the repressed sexuality of supposedly respectable people."
Jack Goodstein, Resident Scholar
