| Plot Summary of The Best Awful |
"Carrie Fisher, who was Princess Leia in the first Star Wars trilogy, is the author of "The Best Awful". Although it is a novel, Fisher draws heavily on her own history of bipolar disorder and drug addiction, as well as her intimate knowledge of Hollywood. The novel starts off with the main character, Fisher's alter ego, being upset over her status as a "fag widow". (Her husband left her for another man). This unhappiness leads to her failure to take her bipolar medication. She ends up in a mental institution temporarily. The subject matter is grim, but Fisher has a sense of humour, which saves the novel from being totally depressing. "
