| Plot Summary of Apologia Pro Vita Sua |
"The Apologia is Newman's account of his religious life. He tries to show the reader how his doubts about the Anglican Church began and how he gradually converted to Roman Catholicism. He describes his involvement in the Oxford Movement which was meant to explain the theology of the Church of England and as he wrote tracts on the subject he became less and less convinced of their truth. He says that the things that he had thought separated him from the Catholic Church became less and less important. The book was intended as an answer to charges that he was a Catholic all his life and had been trying to subvert the Church of England from within."
