| Plot Summary of Emily's Quest |
"The final book of L.M. Montgomery's Emily trilogy finds Emily Starr grown up and still uncertain about her place in the world. Emily has returned to live at New Moon farm with her Aunt Laura, Aunt Elizabeth, and Cousin Jimmy, but she finds that the society of Prince Edward Island, Canada, in the early part of the twentieth century expects her to marry. Emily wants to become a writer but faces many challenges in pursuing her dreams. Her family is suspicious of her ambitions, and Emily is cut off from her friends Teddy, Perry, and Ilse, who are pursuing their own dreams. Two men are also vying for Emily's attention, and she despairs of finding writing success or love.
