Plot Summary of In Heat
"Jax was devastated when he was convicted of smuggling illegal weapons onto him homeplanet of Jimlee and exiled. He was innocent and couldn't believe that his father wouldn't take his side and help him. Ironically, in the long years of his exile, Jax had become a very successful gunrunner known as “The Gunny.” By living on Sector 12, a planet so insignificant it didn't even rate a name, Jax had carved out a little safe place for himself to wait out the final term of his exile. However, it also meant that there were a lot of lawless elements to his new home and Jax had to be on constant alert – especially against the Junkeaters.

When Jax hit his once-yearly mating cycle there was no way to hide his condition. With his palms turning a bright scarlet, the slave trader Alexander knew full well that Jax had to pay whatever price he set for a slave to help him endure the grueling 24-hour mating drive.   Forced to pay 120,000 decodreams, a small fortune, for an Alterian slave named Waverley, Jax just barely made it back to his stronghold before the first mating wave hit. Unfortunately for both of them, Jax found out too late that Waverley was a virgin and that she wasn't a slave – she was drugged and sold by her two so-called partners.

Regardless of Waverley's status, Jax had to have her help to get through his mating cycle. Jax had suffered through 7 mating cycles before this one, discovering what helped and what didn't by trial and error since he never had the training all Jimlee men were supposed to receive, but this time was different, this time was better. Waverley was incredibly responsive to him and he found himself satisfied in between waves, something that had never happened before.

But before Jax had an opportunity to figure out why this time was different, the junkeaters started breaking through his security measures. Still in heat, Jax could barely keep his hands off of Waverley as they escaped out the back way and stole a transport. Luckily, they had opportunities to pause along the way and managed to make it off world without any serious injuries. Jax immediately took them both to Jimlee, his beloved homeworld so that he could his end his exile – and introduce Waverley as his mate to his family. However, his father's cold reception and his stepbrother and stepmother's repeated efforts to discredit and harm him made Jax's homecoming bittersweet. Still, Jax was determined to stay on Jimlee long enough to find the man who framed him for gunrunning and make him pay..."
