| Plot Summary of A Handful of Time |
"Twelve year old Patricia Potter is sent to her Aunt's cottage in Alberta for the summer while her parents work out the details of their divorce.
Patricia's many cousins do not seem to like her. They tease her and challenge her to do things she is afraid of. Rather than playing with them, Patricia takes to spending time in “La Petit” – an aging guest cottage on family's lake property. Under the floorboards of this small cottage, Patricia finds an old pocket watch. When she winds the watch, she finds herself transported back in time to the summer when her own mother was twelve.
Patricia begins to live in two time periods, experiencing both her mother's summer and her own, as she struggles with her relationship with her cousins and her feelings about her parent's divorce. Through her time travel, Patricia begins to understand her mother, and to become close to her as she has been unable to do in her present life.
