| Plot Summary of The Group |
"Mary McCarthy's novel describes the lives of eight Vassar schoolmates up to ten years after graduation. Most of the "group" live in New York and Boston, while one tries her luck in Paris. The young women are members of America's elite who see themselves as agents of social change during the Great Depression. McCarthy candidly describes orgasm, loss of virginity, and obtaining birth control in 1930's America. Each chapter details the past and personal lives of each member of the "group." "
