| Plot Summary of Small Magick - Elemental II |

"Drey descends from a long line of powerful female mages, but she doesn't seem to have much magick of her own. It is true that she can offer some comfort to those who suffer from physical ailments, but she cannot wield the power of the four elements like the rest of the women in her family. So Drey contents herself with caring for her garden and taking care of other normal chores, finding solace in playing her pipes and taking long walks. On one of her walks, she unwittingly stumbles upon a meadow that served as a natural circle to some forgotten mage. Filled with joy at the beauty of the spot, she makes an offering at each of the four alters and sings with joy.
When she is finished, she finds a naked man with her - the man of her dreams. Thinking that she has summoned him for their mutual pleasure, the man immediately sets to giving Drey the most memorable time of her life. Drey is not certain who he is at first, but she soon learns that she has conjured a spirit of the air, named Cyrus, and given him corporal form. As the day comes to a close, Cyrus asks Drey to return him to the air, but Drey has no idea how she conjured Cyrus and cannot find a way to send him back.
Cyrus is upset about not returning to the wind, but he realizes he can do nothing but be patient until Drey can find a way to send him back. He spends his time making love to Drey and learning about the human world. He does not trust the new mage who moves into the small village, especially when he starts paying such attention to Drey, but Drey is flattered that such a famous mage would take an interest in teaching her. Desperate to find a way to return Cyrus to the air, she agrees to become the mage's apprentice. As the mage teaches Drey more, though, she becomes uneasy about the source of the mage's power. He doesn't seem to fit in any of the categories that she has studied about, but she pushes her thoughts aside and concentrates on Cyrus, whom she has fallen in love with. Finally, she is able to send Cyrus back and finds that she misses him desperately. When the mage reveals who and what he truly is, will Cyrus still be able to help and protect her?
This is the second book in Libby Midnight's Elementals series (following Fire & Ice, a book about a fire spirit) and this one was much better than the first. This book stands on its own and has all new characters, but it is linked to the first book in the series. The characters were well developed and the plot had a nice flow. I really enjoyed reading about Drey's developing confidence in her magick and in herself and Cyrus was very supportive, loving and patient. He was also dang cute and had a fun time learning about being stuck in a human body. There was plenty of romantic interaction between the Cyrus and Drey, but it wasn't a book about sex scenes with a tiny bit of plot woven in. I really feel that Midnight has developed between the first book and the second and am eagerly awaiting a third or fourth!
