Robert Ludlum is at it again! He's back and this time right on track! In “The
Prometheus Deception” we find Nicholas Bryson, after five years of “retirement”
after having his cover blown in North Africa, lecturing on Near Eastern history in a
small town college. But his pastoral days as a scholar are suddenly interrupted,
when his old friends from The Company (the CIA) stop by to tell him that things,
indeed, have changed, that all those truths by which he had lived while working for
them had not been truths at all, but massive deceptions by “the other side.”
Furious, of course, Bryson nonetheless is re-called to life and this novel is off and
running. This time, “the other side” is a Seattle-based computer billionaire and
Prometheus, and even more insidious concept (naturally out to rule the world!). As
usual, Ludlum gives up plenty of lessons in international espionage and diplomacy,
global economy, environmental issues, and the required double crosses--all in good
fashion and high supsense. Lengthy, but worth the read, especially if you are
among the legions of Ludlum fans who have been waiting for his drought of good
works to end!
