Plot Summary of Harriet the Spy
"Harriet takes daily walks on her "spy route." Along the way, she writes all of her observations and thoughts into a secret notebook. She gets in trouble with all of her friends when they read this notebook because, in it, she has written some terribly uncomplimentary things about each of them.

Because of her habitual spying and eavesdropping, Harriet's classmates take revenge on her by such tactics as ostracizing her and spilling ink over her. At first, Harriet is angered at their response. Soon, however, Harriet realizes that she wasn't much better of a friend than they are being toward her, and so she realizes she must make amends.
