| Plot Summary of Going Solo |
"Roald Dahl has written many great books and this one is no exception. He tells the story of his life during the Second World War, where he was an aircraft pilot in North Africa. It is full of many breathtaking events, and at one point his plane comes down and he nearly dies. "
Andrew Haine, Resident Scholar

"In Roald Dahl's second memoir, he chronicles his experiences working for the Shell Oil Company in East Africa (now Tanzania) and then as a pilot for the Royal Air Force stationed in Greece during World War II. Because of its subject matter, it is not as light in tone as "Boy," but Roald still manages to find plenty of humor in the war and his African work. He talks in detail about the eccentric personalities he met in Africa, a bizarre encounter with a lion, and the time his plane crashed in Libya and he almost died. This is excellent reading for both adults and children."
Meaghan, Resident Scholar
