Leif Enger's Peace Like a River is a novel narrated by Reuben Land, a young boy living in the Midwest. His family begins a long struggle after his older brother Davy has to runaway because of murder charges. The family begins a cross country search for Davy while the FBI is following their every move. The writing is beautiful with great descriptions of emotions and settings. The novel explores love, trust, and a faith which can at times seem magical. There is an old timey Western feel to the novel which is refreshing to imagine the simplicity of the early 60's in the wilds of winter.
