| Plot Summary of The Kid: What Happened After My Boyfriend and I Decided To Go Get Pregnant |
"When advice columnist Dan Savage and his boyfriend decided to try to adopt a child in the late 1990s, the results were fascinating and hilarious. Based in Seattle, they went to Portland because Oregon is one of only a handful of states that has fairly relaxed open adoption policies. The author talks about the paperwork, the introductory seminars where everyone else seemed to be not only straight but fairly religious, the emotional rollercoaster of getting the word that a child might be available, a Fetal Alcohol Syndrome panic, and many other hitches on the road to an adoption. "
