Plot Summary of Watching Sex: How Men Really Respond to Pornography
"For decades, scholars, theorists, and activitists have made various claims about men and pornography: that porn seeks to humiliate and degrade women, that it teaches men bad things about sex, that it makes men violent toward women. But few if any of these commentators ever actually talked with men to check these assertions against the thoughts and feelings of men who use porn. Loftus spoke at great length with nearly 150 men across the North American continent, and a few overseas, to ask them about their experiences, perceptions, attitudes, tastes, and recommendations for social policy. Although the result is not a scientifically representative study, but more an initial opening up of the public debate into an area it has never really gone before, it should surprise many readers by overturning many of the social myths and presumed wisdom about men and pornography."
David Loftus, Resident Scholar
