| Plot Summary of Beyond Velikovsky: The History of a Public Controversy |
"Immanuel Velikovsky wrote "Worlds in Collision" in 1950, a book that challenged current understanding of the Solar System. He tried to prove that Venus was once a comet by taking ancients myths at face value. Scientists opposed to his opinions tried to ban publication of his book. It became a best seller anyway and sparked a controversy that lasted for decades.
Henry Bauer recently wrote "Beyond Velikovsky: The History of a Public Controversy." Bauer intended his book to present both sides of the issue and claimed his book was fair to Velikovsky. However, some of Bauer statements show that even he has a bias against Velikovsky. Despite this shortcoming, Bauer gives a thorough account of what happened.
