Villard, Jul 2003, 22.95

For months, Le Cordon Bleau trained Layla Mitchner has wanted to become the sauté chef at New York's highly regarded Tacoma Restaurant. However, her boss Noel Barger treats her like she is lower than whale turd, giving her no opportunity to move beyond the salad and dessert menu. He even hires some young drug snorting punk to serve as the sauté chef, bypassing an upset Layla.
Her love life seems improved after meeting musician Frank Stillman. However, she quickly tires of his couch potato laziness and using her. Her alternative is Dick “tassels” Davenport, whose family owns a large corporation, but she needs excitement in her life and his shoes define him as boring. To Layla her life is going nowhere, but Dick is kind of cute and working a TV cooking show was fun so maybe there is some hope in the future.
This is a fun chick lit romance that readers will enjoy because they will like the lead female protagonist though the audience will insist she file a sexual harassment complaint. Except for her friend from another restaurant, the males come across a bit short in the personality department, but fans will appreciate that Hannah McCouch has cooked up a fine first person introspective tale.
