Plot Summary of Cimarron Rose
"James Lee Burke sets many of his stories in and around the state of Louisiana, but Cimarron Rose is set in a small Texas town and features Billy Bob Holland, a respected attorney who is haunted by the memory of shooting his own partner in a drug raid when he was younger and a Texas Ranger. This preoccupation with the past is just an extremely interesting sub-plot, though. The real story is about what Billy Bob does to prove that his illegitimate son is not guilty of the murder for which he is charged. The murder was a brutal one, with overtones of rape, and the evidence against Billy Bob's unacknowledged offspring is convincing at first glance. But Billy Bob feels strongly that the boy is incapable of such an act and as he discovers some deep and dark secrets about some of the leading citizens of the town, he is more and more convinced that the boy is being railroaded. A captivating mystery within a mystery that is extremely well written."
