Plot Summary of Cold Streets
"Jack Fleming, the justice seeking vampire/private investigator is back in book 10 of P.N. Elrod's Vampire Files. The setting is January 1938, Chicago. One of Jack's dreams have come true he is now the owner of the his own nightclub the Lady Crymsyn and doing very well for himself. First Jack foils a kidnapping in which a socialite's autistic daughter is kidnapped by Hurley Dugan and his thugs. Dugan is an aristocrat hard-up for cash due to the depression and willing to do anything he has to do to get it. After his is plan is foiled and he is turned in to the cops by Jack he quickly gets out of jail on bail, because he has friends in high places. He discovers Jacks supernatural secret and blackmail is his game. Meanwhile, the Lady Crymsyn has become neutral ground for the mob. Mob boss Gordy Weems (a friend of Jacks and character in the other Vampire Files Books)is trying to stop Hog Bristow, a hood from New York from taking control of his territory. After several nights of heated conversation Bristow decides he is going to take control of Gordy's operation and territory by force. So bullets began to fly and Gordy is injured in the crossfire. The injured Gordy is taken to Chicago's bronze belt, the site of Chicago's African American mob and home of Jack's friend mob boss Shoe Coldfield. After Gordy is safe, Jack kidnaps Dugan in hopes he can get him to confess to his crime. It failed the last time because he seems to be immune to Jacks hypnotization powers. Most likely because he is insane. Dugan escapes with a little help from Bristow, with a promise he would help him kill Jack. Bristow decides to take Jack out, but it is not quite as easy Bristow thinks, he does not know of Jacks supernatural powers. Jack with help from some of Gordy's men take Bristow out. Hurley Dugan escapes, but Gordy's men are hot on his trail. "
