| Plot Summary of Then Came You |
" Lily Lawson appears to be a wild, carefree woman. She is estranged from her family, having lived with an aunt on the Continent. There, she made the mistake of becoming pregnant by the wrong man, who is actually holding their daughter hostage. Despite her own problems, she saves her sister from making a bad marriage (with Alex Raiford, Earl of Wolverton) and arranged her sister's elopement with another man.
Meanwhile, Alex, who seems to be nursing a love for a dead woman, becomes attracted to Lily and after a scandalous evening, marries her. He knows she is keeping something from him; he is alternately jealous (of her male friend) and impatient. He learns of her daughter after she attempts to make a payment to the father. Ultimately, he saves the child and they live happily ever after."
