Plot Summary of Across the Lakes
"'Across the Lakes', a novel by Amal Chatterjee, centres around the lives of four individuals living in mid-90's Calcutta: Putul the upper-class layabout, Meena the middle-class student who is set on a good marriage, John the Scotsman who is searching for his Indian roots, and Choto the slum-dweller who trys to make ends meet. The major themes of the novel include the contrast between rich and poor, modern day India vs. the traditional, and how certain decisions can bring about catastrophic consequences. "
