| Plot Summary of Archaeology of the land of the Bible - 10,000-586 B.C. |
"This book is part of the Anchor Bible Reference Library, which is aimed at the widest range of readership, from professional to the general reader. As the title of the book says nearly everything, it only remains for me to remark on the excellence of the factual coverage and the balanced approach. It won The Biblical Archaeology Society award 1991 for the 'best scholarly book'. The tone is scientific and historical, and the presentation of the discoveries gives a general background to the Old Testament rather than interpreting the text, although many scriptures are quoted. As it concentrates on the land of Israel it complements works such as Gordon & Rendsburg's 'The Bible and the Ancient Near East', which has a wider scope. There are many good maps, photographs, tables of information, and a list of scriptures referenced. Amihai Mazar is a Senior Lecturer at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel.
