| Plot Summary of Catherine and the Pirate |
"Catherine Markham's parents died four years ago, when she was just thirteen years old. Her brother, Royce, twelve years older than she, became her guardian. More than her brother, he's become her best friend. Devastated by his loss at sea during the American Revolution, when she recieves a ransom note stating that Royce is still alive, Catherine grasps at this one chance to save her brother. She convinces her brother's best friend, Derrick St. John, to take her from Boston to Savannah on his ship, to deliver the ransom note. Derrick is a reformed pirate determined to bring justice for his late father, who was wrongly accused of treason. On the journey, the two fall in love but keep their feelings hidden, because Derrick sees himself as unworthy of Catherine, and Catherine despairs of ever being more than his best friend's little sister."
