"The main character, Magnolia, learns life's lessons through the school of hard knocks and must learn to deal with losing her father to death, a stepfather, loss of dearly loved pets, disappointment, pain, heartache, hard work, the importance of reading and writing skills and obtaining a good education, as well as the negative aspects of cigarette smoking, and dealing with peer pressure.
