| Plot Summary of Number the Stars |
"One of the best books for children in recent years about World War II is Lois Lowry's "Number the Stars". The Johansen family does whatever is necessary to shelter and keep their neighbors, the Jewish Rosens, safe from Nazi terror in Denmark. This is historical fiction at its best as the author describes the heroism of Annemarie, the main character, and her family as doing their part for the "Resistance" forces against the occupying Germans.

"Annemarie's friend was Jewish during World War Two. She has to hide her friend who might be taken to concentration camps where she would probably die. Her friend is hidden in Annemarie's house. Then Annemarie's uncle hides them in his boat and takes them to Switzerland."
Ashley Nobis , Resident Scholar
