Plot Summary of Holes
"Stanley Yelnats' family has never had any luck, and neither does he - as is proven when he is convicted of stealing a famous athlete's shoes and sentenced to Camp Green Lake, a sort of juvenile detention center in the middle of a desert. Camp Green Lake's philosophy is "If you take a bad boy and make him dig a hole every day in the hot sun, it will turn him into a good boy," and that's exactly what Stanley and his cohort in Group D do every day - dig a hole that is five feet in diameter and five feet deep. But when Stanley starts to suspect that there's another reason the boys are digging these holes, he and a friend must go on the lam into the desert. While they're out there, they will discover the truth behind Camp Green Lake, and solve Stanley's family's problems once and for all. This award-winning book is strangely humorous and surreal, yet absolutely believable, and it's suitable for adults as well as children. "
Ivy, Resident Scholar

"Stanley Yelnets has been wrongly accused of a crime and sent to Camp Green Lake as punishment. The camp is nothing like its name suggests. The boys are forced to dig holes every day under the hot son. Stanley figures out that they are searching for something, but what?"
Joanna , Resident Scholar
