Plot Summary of Saving Souls
"

Onyx July 2002, 5.99, 384 pp.
ISBN 0451410432

Her closest friend Raven is dead and the police don't have a clue who killed her. Raven's father thinks Raven's former boyfriend Jack O'Doul murdered her since he dated her before the state of Colorado convicted him of killing his wife. Jack is now serving time in the Canon City penitentiary.

Cass, a journalist, is being paid by Raven's father to get close to Jack to see if he will say something incriminating to her. They begin by writing letters and when enough time lapses Cass moves to Canon City to get close to Jack. Cass feels guilty for lying to Jack and her instincts go into overdrive when little things don't add up. She's has good instincts even though they can get her killed if she trusts the wrong person.

Lucy Taylor has written an edgy character driven thriller in which most of the characters has something to hide. The protagonist gets into a gray ethical area and she knows it but that doesn't stop her from seeking answers to gain closure for herself and her friend's family. Readers will be shocked by the climax though clues are in your face, they are complex to “read” in time to find the answer.
