| Plot Summary of Music for Torching |
"Elaine and Paul intentionally set their house on fire one afternoon by tipping over their Weber grill. The fire symbolizes the need to rebuild their failing marriage and continue to work on their relationships with their sons. Incidentally, they need to rebuild parts of the house too. Do you sense the re-building theme here....??"
Nancy Hochman, Resident Scholar

"Homes writes beautiful and moving stories about filthy and deranged activities. Compared to some of her former books, this one is a little more conventional, centering on the alienated and destructive activities of a suburban couple who one day attempt to burn down their house. There is an adulterous affair, beautifully described, a torrid lesbian affair, a cop attempts a rape, and other weirdness, as well as a somewhat over-the-top dramatic climax, but one is left primarily with the sour, sardonic humor through which one can yet see the essential humanity of the hero-couple. "
David Loftus, Resident Scholar
