| Plot Summary of The Bible As History |
"Werner Keller's justly famous ten million copy bestseller was first published in 1955 and lightly revised in a 1980 second edition. His informed-but-not-stuffy approach to the history and archaeology of the Old and New Testaments of the bible have deservedly made this book popular in the best sense. He devotes twenty-eight chapters to the OT, ten good chapters to the NT, and six to the period between. He covers some exciting discoveries which are little recounted now, such as T.J. Wood's heroic recovery of the scene of the riot caused by Paul in Ephesus at the Temple of Artemis. Although the book is necessarily dated now (eg, he thinks Abraham could not have possessed camels - but science has moved some dates back), it is still packed with information, excellent value, and a good read."
