Descendants of humans from a starship crash have survived by becoming a race of warriors, led by its Prophets. They are like the indian tribes of America. They have a religion called Spider that they say controls everything. The rest of the human race is peaceable and is afraid of these people and wants to remove them. But the Prophets can see the future and the people take over a spaceship.
