| Plot Summary of Drown |
"DROWN by Junot Diaz, 1996, 208pages. Ten astounding short stories written by this Dominican Republican, transplanted
to New Jersey, when his familia moves to their dreamland -- Nueva York. The word gritty can be used to
used to many of the stories, but there is underlying tenderness in all the stories. Junot is a master craftsman
and a great, unflinching storyteller. The stories are based
both in New Jersey and in Santo Domingo.
Junot's stories have appeared in the Best American Short Stories four times! He is the receipinet of a Guggenheim Fellowship, and is surely destined for greater glory. Read DROWN now, so that you can nod your head in agreement when
some great literary prize comes his way.

"A young Dominican immigrant recollects moments in life that molded him into what he is today. In 10 thought provoking short stories Diaz manages to give us an account of the “American Dream” that brings both pain and hope to the table.
With a true Dominican voice and flavor mixed with Washington Heights street smarts this book rings with the timber of truth. Painted with the colors of immigrant life Diaz manages to give us a mural that depicts the passage many of us choose, or get chosen for, through America.
