King John orders his knight Dominic Dragon to wed either the widow of a treasonous but now dead baron or their daughter. Though he finds the Ayrdale estate quite enticing, Dominic prefers to remain single, but knows he has no options. However, Dominic is surprised to learn that twin daughters exist. The story line is four points taut due to external machinations and six points amusement as Rose always seems to best Dominic who changes from frustration to winks at her actions.
