Plot Summary of The Lives of Christopher Chant
"Christopher Chant has always had the ability to visit other dimensions in his dreams - which is good, because his real life has never been very much fun. His parents fight constantly, and he's mostly in the care of a series of nannies, none of whom stay very long. When Christopher has what should have been a fatal accident, though, his abilities come to the attention of his father, then a great magician, then Chrestomanci himself. Only problem: Christopher isn't particularly interested in being the next Chrestomanci. "
Ivy, Resident Scholar

"A story about a naive young boy named Christopher Chant. He lives at home, mainly with his mother, because his father is usually away. At night, he travels through different worlds where he meets many fantastic characters and personages, and when his unusual talents are noticed by his scheming Uncle Ralph, strange things seem to happen. When several accidents happen in which Christopher might have been killed, the chain of events are brought to the attention of his father. Christopher learns that along with his talents, come obligations, which is bad news to a boy whose only wish is to play cricket in peace. "
Chrestomanci, Resident Scholar

"Christopher was just an ordinary boy with an ordinary life. Until he finds out that he has not only one, but nine of them! Forced away from school to live in a castle with a lot of boring people, Christopher is told he will have to be the next Chrestomanci (someone who controls magical misuse in the world) when he grows up. Miserable, he looks to his travels in other worlds as an escape."
