"Dominick struggles with his own identity as his identical twin battles his mental illness. Dominick fights to define himself apart from and with his twin, his mother and step-father, the loss of his wife and baby, and his unknown biological father. A powerful story of redemption and discovery that parallels the struggle each human being fights to define themselves admist family, culture, and society."

"Two brothers, identical twins, are raised in the 60's by a loving but weak mother and an abusive step father. As the boys grow older one of them starts to fall into a mental illness and never recovers. As adults one brother is forced to come to terms with his twin's illness and personal life choices. Set in a first person narration the well brother comes upon a book written by his grandfather from old Italy. Mid way through the book, it changes into Granpa's story. This is a facinating story of old world culture, mysterious tales, and family history. Meanwhile one brother is kept in a mental hospital for cutting off his hand. This is a wonderful story of brother's love, family history, personal identification, and friendship. "

"This is the story of one man's struggle to find his identity, separate from his twin brother. In the course of this 900-page book, the main character deals with childhood and adult issues. The thing is, this book is very depressing. It deals explicitly with schizophrenia and dealing with the disease in someone you love.Lamb goes into great detail during the protagonist's therapy sessions, so much so that it becomes redundant. It was hard for me to finish the novel because it labored on so long about this character's truly horrid life"
Krisha Williams, Resident Scholar
