Plot Summary of Rise of a Merchant Prince - Serpentwar Saga 2
"Raymond E. Feist's "Rise of a Merchant Prince" is book two in the Serpentwar Saga. Erik and Roo Avery are finally free to do as they please. Erik chooses to remain in the army, but Roo takes his chance at his own business. Feist breaks away from his typical adventure story, and focuses instead on Roo Avery's rise in the world of business and stocks. Eventually, his wealth causes him to be blinded to the truth about his lover, and to threaten everything he has worked so hard for...and bring forth a catastrophe into his future. Erik and Roo must work together to stop the terror that threatens their world."
Pamela Piarowski, Resident Scholar

"Roo and Erik arrives to Krondor after two years in captain Calis company. Roo leaves the army and becomes a merchant. His goal is to become the richest man in Krondor."
Isabel, Resident Scholar

"This story follows the fortunes of Roo, the smaller of the two friends from the first novel "Shadow of a Dark Queen". Roo starts himself up in business but soon finds that he cannot succeed alone so sets up with an experienced trader that he met in the earlier novel. Roo takes over the business and marries the old man's daughter after Roo's business rival, Jacoby, causes the death of the old man. Roo falls for the daughter of a wealthy merchant and begins an affair with her, little knowing that this affair could cause his downfall. However Roo hits it big when he gets inside information of a plague and corners the market in wheat, putting most of his rivals out of business, including his oldest rival Jacoby. At the same time Erik embarks on an expedition back to Novindus to attempt to wipe out the pantathian race (a serpent race that are believed to be behind the planned invasion of Midkemia). "
