Plot Summary of The Marriage Contract
"A Scotish Laird's sister has made a marriage contract with an English girl unknown to him. She arrives unannounced and trys to convince him that the marriage is what they both need. His idea of romance is a tumble in the hay.He resists and she persues. He doesn't want to want he but cannot help himself. Lots of interfering from relatives makes this humorous and delightfully intricate."
Judy Carpenter, Resident Scholar

"Ann Bernett is married by proxy (without his permission or wishes) to Aden (Lord Tybol). She travels to Scotland to meet him and tell him they are married. He does not want a wife nor can he have one now that he is smuggling gunpowder for a rebellion in Scottland due to the practice of throwing poor people off their land. He plans to send her away but can't force her to leave once he finds out she has nowhere else to go. He vows to make her want to leave by giving her lots of work around the castle. But she meets each challenge he sets for her and she wins his heart. He must decide if open war with England is what he wants to pursue or if there is a better way. They must also dean with an English office out for power and glory who wants to hurt Tybol. "
